Adventure-based interventions became a part of programming at Life Resources in 1994 with the installation of a small challenge course located at the site of Bishop Ruocco House Treatment Center in Lakeville, Massachusetts. The challenge course was used as an additional activity for the youth who reside in all of the treatment centers in the agency.

In the fall of 2000, the program was able to expand due to the support of John Hancock as well as the Youth Opportunities Grant, funded by the United States Department of Labor and administered by the Brockton Area Private Industry Council. This grant funding provided for the expansion of the existing challenge course and the development of the Life Resources Adventure Program. Life Resoures enhanced the educational, employment and leadership skills of Brockton area youth both on the challenge course and through wilderness trips.

By 2004, the residential treatment programs within Life Resources began to benefit from the growth of the program as it became an essential component of the overall treatrment model for Life Resources. The staff of the Adventure Program teamed up with the clinical departrment of each treatment center and began offering weekly, therapeutic groups to all youth in Life Resources' programs.

Currently, the Adventure Program has benefited a range of groups from residential treatment centers, alternative schools, private corporations to special interest groups. The Adventure Program was renamed the Therapeutic Adventure Program because of its unique clinical component.
